There’s nothing quite like the first time you see a humpback whale from a kayak. Keeping a respectful distance, we’ll observe these impressive creatures as they spout, turn, feed, slap the surface with their fins, and sometimes erupt into a full-scale breach. It’s truly one of the most sublime wildlife displays on the planet.

Spirit Walker Expeditions first pioneered these trips to Point Adolphus over 35 years ago, and these continue to be our most popular outings. Our experienced guides know every inch of the shoreline of Chichagof Island, and that experience helps ensure your kayak trip will be the experience of a lifetime. With a leisurely paddle schedule, this is an ideal trip for families.

After a short boat ride, you’ll be kayaking the rocky shores of Point Adolphus, world-renowned for viewing humpback whales. In camp, our skilled guides will provide you with gourmet meals as well as informed commentary about the abundant wildlife all around. Summer is a time when these animals are stocking up on the nutrient-rich abundance of the sea and forest. While out on the water, in addition to whales, keep an eye open for Stellar’s sea lions, harbor seals, and sea otters. On walks through the quiet rainforest, you’ll see bald eagles nesting high in the Sitka spruce, hear the croak of ravens echoing through the hemlocks, and perhaps even sight a brown bear feasting on salmonberries.

Our three-day Whales trips combine world-class wilderness kayaking, quiet hikes, and numerous opportunities to see the magnificent spectacle of humpback whales gathering and feeding. We’ll treat you to great meals, and in the evenings, be sure to listen for the sounds of whales offshore from the quiet of your tent. It’s an experience you won’t forget.

We had a wonderful experience on a Spirit Walker trip this summer. Six nights, seven days in the Myriad Islands Wilderness. The trip was well organized, the gear was top quality and the guides were great! ... an experience I'll always remember.

This experience was absolute perfection, from the initial call through the flawless execution. I can't say enough good things about this operation and I've personally worked in adventure travel. Thank you, Stephen and crew!

We booked the Whales tour to Point Adolphus for our family which includes a 6 year old and 9 year old... Great safety orientation for our boys who don't have a lot of experience kayaking. Thanks for an unforgettable experience.

It doesn't get any better than this. If you want to experience the real Alaska you must get out on the water... If we return to Alaska, we will make this expedition again.

"Magic Family Holiday" I can't say enough about the wonderful trips that Spirit Walker puts together. The safety and equipment is great. The guides are great fun and knowledgeable about the areas we went. The food is incredible.

The trip had it all: calving glaciers, breaching humpback whales, grizzlies, moose, bald eagles, harbor seals, and much more. I cannot recommend the Spirit Walker crew and the grandeur of Glacier Bay highly enough. Already thinking about my next return trip to the park.
